While the Israeli public is determined to enjoy a stable and sane existence (see my previous posting), the Israeli leadership is not.

The moment of Sharon's descent into coma also brought the Era of Giants to its end. From people wrought in the fire of war for existence to slick executive-minded grasshoppers. I never liked Sharon, and I'm convinced he took an important part in the ascendancy of grasshoppers to power. But we'll let that go, because when the moment came for him to become the premier, he was ready to lead. To make sure that there is maximal correspondence between the words that he utters and the acts that are performed accordingly.

But now the tree has been cut down. We are no longer looking over treetops - we are at ground level trying to get a peek beyond the heath. The Olmert grasshopper is bending the grass leaf on which it is sitting to a snap. And why?

Because our enemy from the north, Hezbollah, succeeded in abducting two soldiers and killing several others. A horrible occurrence in Israeli eyes. A tragedy for the soldiers' families and friends. But this is not an event that should snap our grass leaf. And it has.

Granted, with such leadership the snapping of the leaf was inevitable and if it wasn't an abduction something else would have done the trick. But just like the assassination attempt of Ambassador Argov in 1982, Israel 2006 was once more poised to unleash its army at a threat it cannot overcome - a dramatic lack of leadership and foresight.

So now what?
I love the fact that countries can keep functioning on pure inertia.

Do we have a prime minister who performs his duties as leader? No. Does his president provide the foresight and progeny the people are thirsty for at this dour hour? No. Does the justice minister exert authority over the judicial system? No. Does the army chief give his troops the feeling that he is committed to his job 120% and that nothing obscures this commitment? No.

So how can the country continue to function? Who is at the helm? There must be SOMEONE over there, at the tip of the ship. Who is it??

I think it's the six million prime ministers from the previous post.

Unlike in the past, when people were indoctrinated to believe they had their backs to the wall, and only a strong leader could help them out of the situation, Israelis now know they must first manage their private lives and only then look around them to see how their country is doing.

This is what generates the inertia. This is what in other countries is considered normalcy, and over here is still a miracle. This is what was slammed by many in July as the Bubble created by the residents of Tel Aviv to help them remain oblivious to the war.

This is what is saving us right now from chaos.

Things aren't looking too good for Israel. Looking back it seems they never have, but looking ahead it seems they're getting increasingly worse.

Amos Oz once wrote that Israel's six million residents are six million prime ministers. This blog is nothing more but the thoughts of such prime minister.

And I'd like to start off with the thought that many of our problems could have remained outside existence if Nasrallah did Yoga.

Just try to picture this: To begin with he'd have to discard of the robe and turban, so everyone would feel less intimidated and alienated; then, he would have to focus his mind on nothing beyond his mere existence - with legs stretched out, his back in a twist and his head upside down there would be no room left for thoughts on violence, revenge and destruction; then, as he meditated at the end of the session, the new life streaming up and down his veins would surely bear a positive outlook on life, instead of the butcher's bookkeeping practices floating around his head.

Islam encourages flexibility - prayer and religious lessons are done while sitting on rugs, cross-legged or sprawled. It's a short steps from there to the basic Yoga positions.

I say, Hassan - you can do it. And if nothing else, it'd help you pass the time in your bunker.
